“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”
– Albert Einstein
Supporting incredibly bright individuals navigating through the common emotional intensities correlating with intense brightness is a joy of my clinical work. Often I find that really smart clients can be unaware of how their emotional intensities, deep sensitivities, existential funks and depressive and anxiety symptoms correlate with intellectual brightness. A little education about this reality is often quite validating for my clients. I delight in educating really smart people about their quirks and deep sensitivities!
In addition to providing individual clinical counseling for high-achieving, incredibly bright clients ranging widely in age, I’ve learned that very often these individuals struggle silently, impaired with a sense of imposture syndrome or perfectionism.
In addition to providing counseling for these individuals, I’ve facilitated psycho-educational groups for college students within this special population.
I’ve been a member of national network known as Serving the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG), local SENG support groups, the Kansas Association for the Gifted, Talented and Creative, and I regularly participate in local and state continuing education opportunities for this population. I’m a lifelong learner and continually sharing with clients new findings about their greatest challenges.
